Our home is our
comfort zone and as any comfort zone it needs to be equipped with all the
things we need in order to feel cozy. But how many of these things are safe for
us and how many of them do we actually need? At first glance, there might be
nothing wrong with our household but at a second glance, we might notice that we need to make some changes in order to be not just comfortable but also safe and protected.
We picked 5 of these hazardous things as it follows:
Microwave
First
of all, you must have an oven! And if you choose the microwave over the
traditional oven, it is just a sign that you are a lil too comfortable or maybe
too busy to do it the right way, even if that means waiting more than 3 minutes
for our food to heat up. Using your microwave to „prepare” your food is like
killing all the good properties, vitamins, nutrients, that your food may have
had before the „murder”. Also, microwaves are known for distroying B-12 for
instance in beef meat. When you head foods that are wrapped in plastic in the
microwave, you can create carcinogens in the food. Based on Russian research
and German studies, the Russian government issued a warning about the health hazards
microwave ovens can have on the human body and the environment. The assembling
of microwavable foods are found to contain toxic chemicals such as BPA,
polyethylene terpthalate (PET), benzene, toluene, and xylene says Foodbabe.com.
The plastic containers used to heat these microwave meals have been found to
release the carcinogens along with other harmful toxins into your food which is
then absorbed by your body, informs www.medicaldaily.com. And one last good reason that should make you think
twice before using your microave and not your oven, is the damage that it does
to your heart rate. Microwaves can produce effects on your body instantly due
to the 2.4 GHz radiation — the frequency of radiation emitted by microwave
ovens. A
study conducted by Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University found the levels of
radiation emitted by a microwave affect both heart rate and heart rate
variability. These levels are within federal safety guidelines but tend to
cause immediate and dramatic changes in heart rate. If you experience irregular
heart beat or any chest pain and regularly eat microwaved food, it might be
best to discontinue use.
Sugar
Sugar
is a drug and creates addiction which is why it is found in the majority of
food products, even the ones that you would never suspect. What is wrong with
sugar is that, when we „enjoy”too much of it, it brings up several diseases and
mood changes. Sugar gives us an instant energy spark but it goes almost as fast
as it comes and what it leaves behind is a strong feeling of irritation,
tireness and even frustration and bad energy which is why we decide to have
some more sugar, maybe a candy or a glass of soda. Sugar doesn’t contain any
nutrients and it’s bad for your teeth, whih is why kids are not allowed (well,
they shouldn’t be) to eat candy whenever they want. Added Sugar is High in
Fructose, Which Can Overload Your Liver, no comment to this one as it is so
obvious. Sugar Can Cause Insulin Resistance, a Stepping Stone Towards Metabolic
Syndrome and Diabetes. Insulin is a very important hormone in the body. It
allows glucose (blood sugar) to enter cells from the bloodstream and tells the
cells to start burning glucose instead of fat. Having too much glucose in the
blood is highly toxic and one of the reasons for complications of diabetes,
like blindness.
Carpeting
Oh
yes, rugs, carpets, everything like that put on the floor usually with a
decorative purpose are not so inocent as they seem. They do look nice
especially if they meci your furniture and walls color, and sometimes they also
keep your feet warm duringc old season. But the problem that comes with it is
dirt. Carpets hold a lot of dust almost hidden inside them, and also a lot of
bacteria. Of course vacuuming your carpet is helping, but washing it would be
even better if you want to kill all the bacteria inside it and you might want
that especially if you have kids who spend most of their time on the floor. So,
dirt, dust and most important hidden bacteria, needs to be daily removed. Which
brings us to a new problem: maintenance! No rugs, no carpets,
trust me!
TV in every room
Television is a great thing and we
all can be grateful for it, but, like all the great things on the planet, it
has its disadvantages. First of all, we should acknowledge the fact that TVs
are meant to inform and entertain people. They are great in the living rooms,
and maybe in the kitchen, just so you don’t get bored while cutting your
carrots or boiling your soup. But why do you need one of those devices in your
bedroom? After all, each room of your house is connected to a specific purpose.
Living room is for hanging out, having fun and entertaining guests or simply
yourself, case in which a TV is more than welcome. To a certain extend it is
nice to have one of those in the kitchen as well for the sake of your time
spent cooking. The bedroom however is for peaceful activities such as sleep, or
for intimate activities such as sex. In none of these cases you need a TV, so
why having one? Probably because the majority of us got used to watch certain
shows until we fall asleep. I should mention the damage it does to our brain
and the lack of peace it brings us but, unfortunately, we all do it. And as a
consequence of this bad habit, we don’t really fall asleep watching TV but we
sort of pass out because our eyes and mind are getting so tired that can’t
function anymore. Tired of information and drama that is not even ours or
useful for us in any way when it comes to bed time. So, no. TVs in bedrooms are
kind of bad. If we refer to the intimate purpose of having a bedroom, then the
sexual life might suffer severely since watching TV is very distracting and
more handy than actually performing some sort of intercourse. It is a trend
though, when it comes to placing a TV in every room of our house and we don’t
do that because we need it but because it is convenient and helps us escape,
more often than we should, from our own life and thoughts.
Air Conditioners
On a hot summer
day, A/C saves the day. But when it's leaking, it's a setup for refrigerant
poisoning, which can cause heart palpitations, seizures, and can cut off oxygen
to your lungs and cells, ultimately causing death, says Heathline. It's mostly
appliance repairers or installers that are at risk for the poisoning because
they're around these cooling devices all day, which work by using Freon, a
refrigerant substance that transforms from a liquid to an odorless gas (it's
responsible for keeping your fridge cool, too). But they have protocols in
place to stay safe, so if you notice a leaky A/C, be sure to skip the DIY and
call a professional to get it repaired.
